Media Curator is a local media management app. It helps you browse, curate, and delete photos, videos, audio files, and PDFs stored on your device. No data ever leaves your device. The app has no servers, no accounts, no analytics, and no internet connection.
Everything the app writes stays on your device and contains no photos and no personal identifiers. To let your progress survive a reinstall, a few small files are saved in your Downloads folder:
mediacurator_hidden.json — the list of year-month keys you have marked as done (e.g. "2023-04").mediacurator_stats.json — running totals of how many items you have deleted and how much space that freed.mediacurator_pdf_index.json.gz — an offline search index of words extracted from your own PDFs, so you can search inside them. It contains text from your PDFs and is stored only on your device.mediacurator_photo_hashes.txt.gz — fingerprints (checksums) used to detect duplicate photos and videos. The app also keeps equivalent index files in its own private storage. You can delete the Downloads files at any time.
When you delete items, they are first moved to a recoverable Trash rather than removed immediately, so accidental deletions can be undone. On Android 11 and above this uses the system recycle bin (which auto-clears after about 30 days). On Android 10 and below the app keeps recoverable copies in its own private storage until you empty the Trash or 30 days pass. In all cases the files remain on your device — nothing is uploaded.
The app can generate a diagnostic report containing your device model, the app's settings, and a log of recent in-app activity (for example indexing results and errors). It contains no photos and no personal data. This report is never sent automatically — you can review it and choose to share it yourself (for example by email) only if you want to help diagnose a problem.
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children.
